What is Animation Bootcamp?
Knowing HOW to do something in After Effects is great… but knowing WHAT to do is better. Understanding the principles of good Animation is the key to creating amazing, fluid work. This 6-week interactive experience will put you ahead of the competition and ignite your ability to create beautiful, purposeful movement no matter what you’re working on.
If you start every project with a pit in your stomach hoping that somehow you’ll “find” some good animation by experimenting with keyframes… then this course will literally change your career.
Step-by-step Classes & More.
You will gain evergreen access to the Animation Bootcamp Student Portal. The portal contains 6-weeks worth of content that is time-released day-by-day to you. Whether you are new to Motion Graphics or a seasoned pro, you will be shown step-by-step and then tested on how to:
- 1. Create beautiful, FLUID movements using the Graph Editors.
- 2. Add more impact and energy to your animations
- 3. Control your viewer’s eye and make your work incredibly pleasing to watch
- 4. Develop your critical-eye for Animation
- 5. Build up a comprehensive Animation Vocabulary to expand your toolset
Interact with your peers.
Get feedback on your assignments, ask technical questions, share inspiration, and network with your fellow students. The Animation Bootcamp private groups are amazing and probably the best part of the course.
Bootcamp is not easy, but you’ll be going through it with a bunch of other motivated and excited students. The Animation Bootcamp Private Facebook group runs 24/7.
NOTE : We have extended our Critique Window to 12 Weeks! You now have an extra 6 weeks to get feedback from our TA’s if you fall behind.
We bring on Teaching Assistants who have actually gone through the course themselves to make sure that the critiques you receive are on-point, personlized, and ACTIONABLE. Our amazing staff of TA’s will kick your butt, encourage you, and help you see the areas of your animation that need a little love.
We use an incredible tool called Frame.io to handle our critiques. We can give you frame-accurate feedback, draw directly over your video, and point out on a pixel-level what you need to work on
Access to hundreds of Project Files
With every student completing the same assignments, you’ll see a TON of different takes on the same exercise. If you see something you like (or don’t know how to pull off) you can download any students’ project files via a shared Google Drive.
This is an opportunity that you won’t get in any other setting, take full advantage of it!

What will you learn?
The course is designed to make you an animator in 6-weeks. It’s structured to build lesson-by-lesson until you’re pulling off very complex and sophisticated animation.
This is not a course that shows you a bunch of “tricks” that you may or may not use ever again. You will learn the secrets of Animation, knowledge that you will be able to use on every single project you do for the rest of your career.
Whether you’re just starting out or a veteran, your skills will improve IMMENSELY if you complete the course.
Get familiar with the Bootcamp system, learn how to post work, and dive right in with an Evaluation exercise designed to let us see where you are starting from.
Get rid of bad habits, make friend with Timing & Spacing, get your hands dirty with some old-fashioned cel animation, then meet the Value Graph.
By the end of this week you will finally have complete control of BOTH graph editors, and you’ll know what the heck a proper Anticipation and Overshoot look like.
This week we tackle Bounces and Follow-Through. These are a bit more technical, and getting the hang of these types of movement give you a TON of control over your animation.
Squash and Stretch come into play, and we dive into the concept of Secondary Animation. You’ll also be revisiting your Evaluation exercise to see how far you’ve come,
What do you do when you have to coordinate many things moving at once? This week gets more advanced as we cover Reinforcing Movement and Eye Trace.
What happens if you don’t want smooth, beautiful movement? Hey, sometimes you don’t. We cover “odd” animation and you also receive your Final Project.
What happens after Bootcamp ends?
At the end of Bootcamp you are inducted into the Alumni Facebook Group where you can post your final projects, meet students from previous sessions, and continue to keep in touch with your new compadres. The networking that takes place in this group is priceless, and many students have gotten freelance work from the connections they’ve made in this course.
What are others saying about Bootcamp?
I would recommend Animation Bootcamp to others without a doubt. The content was broken into digestible nuggets and layered upon themselves as the course went on. The networking and interaction with other artists growing their skill set is inspiring. The lessons were fun and the content was engaging where it didn’t feel like work.
This course was definitely the best money I’ve ever spent in my life. After this course I feel like my knowledge and confidence of Animation and After Effects has increased 1000%. Every single day I was excited to see what new lesson was to come, and what little nuggets of information it would provide.
The course isn’t just a”course.” It’s an inspirational path where you learn to animate, to sharpen your eye, to lead your creativity, to think about how to iuuimprove your work in every process thoughout a production, to network with your peers and to absorb a lot of technical stuff about how to get the best results out of your tools.
Isolated software focused tutorials only help so much. Having a good teacher and a structured learning environment makes all the difference. School of Motion’s Animation Bootcamp fills in all the gaps. Everyday was filled with lightbulb moments, i never would have discovered on my own in a million, gajillion years.
