Job Overview

School of Motion is looking for a Motion Design Content Geek to help us grow our presence in the online Motion Design community.

As a Motion Design Content Creator for School of Motion you will be tasked with creating and editing great Motion Design content/articles. This is a job for a serious MoGraph writer. As a Motion Design Content Creator you will create amazing blog posts and written content pieces such as:

  • Software How-To’s
  • Industry Tips/Tricks
  • Plugin Reviews
  • Inspirational Roundups
  • Industry Think Pieces
  • Q&As
  • Opinion Pieces
  • MoGraph News

Our blog content covers many Motion Design topics, from After Effects and Cinema 4D to demo reels and freelance tips. If a Motion Designer would be interested in reading it, you’ll write about it.

In addition to writing, you’ll be tasked with editing blog posts from our network of contributors. We have a steady stream of incredible contributor content. It’s your job to make it the best it can be through editing and design.

As an online education platform we would love for our MoGraph Content Geek to create video tutorials to help with regular content posting. While this is not a job requirement, it would be a huge bonus. We’re not looking for a movie star, just someone with a passion to teach. Although, if you are a movie star that’d be pretty sweet...

Our Motion Design Content Geek will also help with our social media channels by sharing killer Motion Design content from around the world. We currently have a curated presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Vimeo with even more channels on the horizon.

Our Motion Design Content Geek will help with our weekly newsletter, Motion Mondays. With 33K+ subscribers, the newsletter is among the biggest in the industry. This is an exciting opportunity to get your work seen by thousands of artists every week.

It should be noted that this is not a Motion Design Job, this is a marketing/writing job. You may do some Motion Design work in a limited capacity as it makes sense for explaining Motion Design concepts. However, you will likely use Google Trends a lot more than After Effects or Cinema 4D.

As a Motion Design Content Geek you will directly report to our Marketing Director. We are looking a creative person who can see assigned tasks through to completion.

As a small team we always have new and exciting projects to work on, and you’ll be in the middle of it all. This is your chance to make a difference in the world’s best industry.

About School of Motion

At School of Motion we’re trying to reinvent the way students learn online by combing the best parts of a traditional brick-and-mortar school with technology that allows our students to live anywhere in the world and receive the best Motion Design training on the planet. Our mission is to break down the barriers to learning, mastering and working in Motion Design. In 2018 we have six comprehensive courses with several more in development, over 5,000 Alumni, dozens of Teaching Assistants, and a very small team of full time staff working diligently to make it all keep ticking!

Our Core Values:

Our core values embody our team dynamic and our voice. We are rebellious, helpful, effective, playful, and curious. If you would like to work with us, you should be all of these things too:

We don’t like to do things just because they’ve always been done that way. Be skeptical of the status quo and constantly improve.

There is no such thing as “not my job”. Help out in any way you can, and don’t hesitate to reach out for help.

We do things fast and smart. We automate if it makes sense. We skip the meeting if its not immediately beneficial to the mission.

No Bad Vibes. Don’t take yourself too seriously, it’s only Animation.

Have interests, pursue them ruthlessly. Share your weirdness.

Some important information...

While School of Motion does not discriminate on the basis of citizenship or national origin, we may only employ United States citizens and people who are authorized to work in the United States. As long as you meet that criteria, you can work from wherever is comfortable for you! We’re a fully remote team that primarily operates on Eastern Standard Time, and if you are local to Sarasota, Providence, Detroit, or Los Angeles then you can come work with us in person!

We have some great benefits!

  • We cover 100% of your health insurance and a portion for your spouse and children
  • We have an extremely flexible time off policy. If your work is getting done, you can set your own hours, within reason. We trust you.
  • Access to a 401K plan after one year of employment
  • Profit based bonus program
  • Saying that we have a very casual work environment is an understatement, just be you.
  • An exceptional giphy game.

The position does require domestic travel at least twice per year when we all get together for company retreats and industry conferences (they are fun!).
