Hand Animated Effects in Adobe Animate

Hand drawn effects can be easy, very easy in fact. In this lesson Sara Wade is going to take you through all of the basics you need to know to be able to get going in Adobe Animate.

You'll create a variety of vector effects that you can use to give your animations that little bit of extra pizazz that make people go "Wow, how did they do that!?"

And did we mention that these are vector, as in fully scaleable, super light weight, easy to draw and easy to use? That's right. All of those great benefits of the vector format blended seamlessly with that hand drawn feel right in Adobe Animate. Pretty slick, huh?

We'll then take those effects from Animate and composite them into our scene in After Effects to finish out our project. So grab a drawing tablet, or your mouse, and get ready to get animating!

If you have any questions, click over to the Q&A tab to post them. Other students can answer you, and we'll put our team on the case to try and get you a solution ASAP.

00:00:17,899- [Sarah] Hey there, Sarah here with School of Motion today
00:00:20,597to talk to you about accent and effect animation.
00:00:23,360This stuff is the cherry on top of your already
    00:00:25,659awesome motion graphics work.
00:00:27,456Today, we're gonna learn how to do some things in
00:00:29,557Adobe Animate that are really tough to do in After Effects.
    00:00:32,855It doesn't matter whether you're working on a commercial,
00:00:34,917a short film, or an animated info graphic,
00:00:37,776you can bet you're gonna want some accent animation
00:00:39,978to draw the viewer's eye exactly where you want it to be.
00:00:43,015This kind of animation we'll do today will make your
00:00:45,613work stand out from the crowd.
00:00:47,440One thing we're gonna do is build a library
    00:00:49,920of hand drawn animated effects.
00:00:51,875Don't worry if hand drawn animation isn't your thing.
00:00:54,917You don't have to be an amazing 2D artist
00:00:57,157to make some amazing 2D hand drawn animation.
00:00:59,957We'll learn techniques that can be done
00:01:02,160with or without awesome drawing skills.
00:01:04,080The drawing tools in animate will allow you to
00:01:06,354allow you to adapt different work flows depending
00:01:08,677on your own level of skill.
00:01:10,000And as your skills improve, you can change
    00:01:12,096your work flows accordingly.
    00:01:14,480So, let's get started.
00:01:17,077Okay, let's check out what our starting point is.
00:01:19,899I've just opened up Adobe After Effects.
00:01:22,276And in here, you'll see that we've got our timeline.
00:01:25,280We've got all of this basic animation in here.
    00:01:28,016It's pretty cool.
00:01:29,259It's not quite where it needs to be however.
00:01:32,219So we've got these planets scaling in a neat bouncy way.
    00:01:36,896But it's not quite often.
00:01:38,597I'd like some sort of effect when they come on stage.
00:01:41,152I know we've got he ship flying through
00:01:43,019but the ship looks like it needs something to me.
00:01:45,616It needs some propulsion, it's obviously got jet fuel.
00:01:48,277It's gonna need some flames back there to really make
00:01:50,400it feel like it's burning through space.
00:01:53,235And then finally, when these planets are shot
00:01:55,797with this little laser that the ship shoots out,
00:01:58,619they explode, but nothing really happens,
    00:02:00,892they just disappear.
00:02:02,158So we want to add an explosion effect to those planets.
00:02:04,597So the first thing we're gonna do is pop over
    00:02:07,376to Adobe Animate.
00:02:09,637Here I've got just a new untitled file.
00:02:12,677The first thing I want to do is I want to set this
00:02:15,317file up to match my After Effects composition.
00:02:17,797So I'm gonna go to the modify menu and choose document.
00:02:22,560And then I'm gonna set my resolution to 1920 by 1080
00:02:26,960because that is what my After Effects file is set to.
    00:02:32,720Let's do one more thing.
00:02:34,219We want to make sure that we're using the same frame rate
00:02:36,576which we are, we've got 24 frames per second.
00:02:38,859After Effects is 24 per second.
00:02:41,040That's super important because we want our animation
00:02:43,280to be obviously at the rate at the right speed.
00:02:45,979First steps, done. Our document's set up, it matches.
00:02:48,437The thing I'm gonna do is I'm going to import to stage
00:02:54,037the render I've got of this before the effects.
00:02:57,536So this is just a render of what we just looked at
    00:02:59,797in After Effects.
00:03:01,077I'm gonna go ahead and hit that import button.
00:03:03,019And what I want to do is embed H264.
00:03:05,856So when you're taking renders from After Effects
00:03:09,157to Adobe Animate, they've gotta be.
00:03:11,536Basically, there are only a couple of formats
00:03:13,680that you can see on the timeline.
00:03:15,680One of those is FLV, we're not gonna worry about that.
00:03:18,356We can't output that directly from After Effects.
00:03:21,136It's an extra step we just don't want to add.
00:03:23,475But the other one is an H264 QuickTime.
00:03:25,917So I've rendered this out without the effects
    00:03:28,917as an H264 QuickTime.
00:03:30,859And now I'm gonna embed it in the timeline.
00:03:33,472Hit next, just leave all that at the default.
00:03:36,976And hit finish. Wait a minute and there it is.
00:03:39,796So now, I can scrub through the timeline
00:03:42,059to visually preview what I've got.
00:03:43,894I can also hit enter, which will kind of do the
    00:03:46,875equivalent of a RAM preview.
00:03:48,435It'll just play what's in the timeline the same way
00:03:50,634that After Effects would play it if you were to
    00:03:52,395hit the space bar.
00:03:54,933And then I could just click
00:03:56,639anywhere on the timeline to stop it.
00:03:58,757So you see we've got our animation in here
    00:04:00,597into Adobe Animate.
    00:04:01,760And that's gonna help us
00:04:03,099get the rest of our animation setup.
00:04:05,077Okay, so the first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna
00:04:07,298go ahead and save this file.
00:04:09,579Ah, let's see, this is gonna be our VIP content.
00:04:13,237So we've got, start a new folder in here,
00:04:16,673and we will call this animation source.
00:04:20,960Because we're gonna save this in a different place
00:04:23,734than our footage just so that we have the source files
00:04:25,739for Animate separate than where we're going to output this
00:04:28,661for taking it back into After Effects.
00:04:32,058So animate document is totally fine.
00:04:34,555And we'll just call this our base animation.
00:04:38,898The reason for that will become clear a little bit later.
00:04:42,018But this is gonna be my basic file.
00:04:44,017Then later on, we're gonna take each animation
00:04:46,113that we create and we're gonna put them into
00:04:48,400their own file so they can become
00:04:50,261the start of our own effects library.
00:04:53,077So let's hit save for that.
00:04:55,760Okay, so we've got our file, we've got our video,
00:04:58,699we're definitely on our way to being able
    00:05:00,880to create something super cool.
00:05:02,898The next thing we want to do is just setup
    00:05:05,659a few more things.
00:05:07,518So let's go back to that modified document.
00:05:10,080I'm just gonna set that background color
00:05:12,480so that it matches, just for consistency sake.
00:05:16,054And then the next thing I want to do is
00:05:18,453I want to setup my color palette.
00:05:20,779So this frame I stopped on this frame because
00:05:23,237it's got most of the colors that we're gonna
    00:05:25,259want to setup swatches for.
00:05:27,077So the first thing I'm gonna do is I'm just
00:05:29,221gonna grab that orange and I'm gonna go add swatch.
00:05:34,400Let's move this to the side so you can see that.
00:05:36,821So I went up here and then that first link is add swatch.
00:05:40,160And I'm gonna do that for each of the major colors.
00:05:43,579So, let's zoom in. I'm using control plus to zoom in.
00:05:50,117Same key code as you're probably use to with After Effects.
00:05:53,377And that's just because I want to make sure
    00:05:55,174I get the exact color.
00:05:57,200I'm gonna add a swatch for that.
00:06:00,997Looks like we've got both of the orange colors.
00:06:03,377And it looks like we've got a yellow there.
00:06:05,061So we want to make sure we get that.
00:06:08,400That looks a little bit grayed out.
00:06:10,379We might brighten that out a bit.
00:06:13,339I can do that by just clicking this
00:06:16,539and then going to this guy.
00:06:18,779Let's just grab the brighter version of that.
00:06:21,875And again, I'm gonna add swatch.
00:06:24,538And then, just so that we add the colors.
00:06:26,537We've got a basic setup with everything that we need.
00:06:29,200So let's get into the blues now.
00:06:30,821We've got this darker one that we said is the background.
    00:06:33,621Add swatch for that.
00:06:36,197We've got a nice middle blue here.
00:06:42,379And then we've got this light blue
00:06:44,181but it looks like there's a gradient over this earth,
00:06:47,117so we want to get the middle value.
00:06:53,941And then, just so that we've got enough of variety,
00:06:58,901we're gonna grab sort of the lighter values from this ship.
00:07:03,157And so now, when I drag down here, I've got this
    00:07:06,357whole palette already setup.
00:07:07,957And then of course, it looks like white is part
    00:07:10,379of this palette too.
00:07:11,555We don't need to add a swatch for white.
00:07:13,440I feel pretty confident that the straight up white
00:07:15,941is going to for us, so that is gonna make it easier
00:07:18,901when we start to create our animations.
00:07:22,379Okay, so one final thing I'm gonna do
00:07:24,979before I get into animating is I'm gonna select
00:07:27,317this layer here, actually let's move Animate back over,
00:07:31,760so that we can see the left edge.
00:07:33,701So I've got this as called layer one.
00:07:35,579I'm just gonna double click on that to rename it
00:07:37,781and I'm gonna call this, I'll call it Before Video
00:07:43,632because that's sort of our guide.
00:07:48,752And to make sure that it doesn't render out
00:07:51,289when we start rendering out these effects,
00:07:53,087I'm just gonna make this layer right click
    00:07:54,847and make it a guide.
00:07:55,911And so guide layers in Animate, they don't export,
00:08:00,148similar to a guide layer in After Effects.
00:08:03,232So, the next thing I'm gonna do is setup layers
00:08:05,888for each of our different effects.
00:08:07,531The first effect I want to do is I'm gonna do
00:08:09,931sort of a plasma ball to bring these planets onto the stage.
00:08:14,923I'm gonna call this layer Plasma Ball Animation.
00:08:25,049And the next thing I'm gonna want is I'm gonna want
    00:08:27,607some ship flames.
    00:08:36,672And finally, an explosion animation.
00:08:45,404And this is just gonna help us stay really organized.
00:08:49,086And the next thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna
    00:08:50,831lock all these layers.
00:08:52,310That's gonna ensure that when I'm working
00:08:54,208on a particular animation, I'm not gonna animate
    00:08:56,768anything else accidentally.
00:08:58,846So let's start first with our plasma ball animation.
00:09:03,968We're gonna create that plasma ball for this earth planet
00:09:08,272because it doesn't have rings, it's just gonna be
00:09:10,592the easiest one to cue that off of.
00:09:13,888So I'm gonna go down here, and let's just go,
00:09:17,888the earth is fully on screen here.
00:09:19,829And again, I'm just using this video as reference.
00:09:22,048This isn't my finally clip, so it's okay
00:09:24,171that it's not on frame one and it's okay that
    00:09:26,786it's not gonna be centered.
00:09:28,571So I'm just hit F6, that's an add key frame.
00:09:31,710And just to put a key right there,
00:09:33,531this is where we're gonna start our pop in animation.
00:09:36,191What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna animate a plasma ball
00:09:39,968I'm gonna say about six frames of animation.
00:09:43,552This is gonna be something that we can hand draw
    00:09:45,990really quickly in Animate.
00:09:47,531And then loop and export it as looping footage
00:09:50,807or export it as footage and then loop it in After Effects.
00:09:54,150This kind of thing is really tricky to do with
00:09:56,150the shape layers in After Effects.
00:09:57,688You can't typically draw just frame by frame in that
00:10:00,446software, so that's why we're using Animate for this task.
00:10:03,907You can see over here on the right I've got
    00:10:06,272all these different drawing tools.
00:10:08,411The main ones that we're gonna be concerned with
00:10:11,168today are the pencil tool, which works like you
00:10:15,848might expect to, similar to the pencil tool
00:10:18,331in a lot of other software programs.
00:10:21,350So down here, you'll see the pencil tool
    00:10:23,611basically draws line.
00:10:25,510You can choose the style of the line.
    00:10:27,690We're gonna stick with solid.
00:10:29,232You can choose the width of the line.
00:10:30,870And this is where it gets pretty exciting in animate.
00:10:33,270So let's just draw a practice line here.
    00:10:36,909Just a squiggle.
00:10:38,368So you'll notice that it's exactly as I drew it.
00:10:41,371But what I can do with this pencil line
00:10:43,905is select it and then I can smooth it.
00:10:46,272Or I can hit this straighten here and if i want it
00:10:49,648to be more of a straight line, I can do that.
00:10:52,288Let's undo that, we want a smooth line in fact.
00:10:55,164Or I can leave it just as it is.
00:10:56,992So go back to the pencil tool, and you see
00:10:59,552this drop down there, let me move this over a bit
00:11:02,731so you can see these little pop ups.
00:11:05,190So again, if I've got the pencil selected
00:11:07,131I can grab this little drop down
00:11:09,030and I can draw in smooth mode.
00:11:12,150And that's gonna automatically smooth anything I draw.
00:11:14,230Or I can draw in straighten mode which is gonna
    00:11:20,128straighten those lines out.
00:11:21,426I didn't draw those perfectly straight.
00:11:23,190Again, this one I curved, but see it does its best
    00:11:26,048interpolation of that.
00:11:27,952Or I can draw in ink mode which is going to be
00:11:30,528sort of as close to how I moved the pen.
00:11:33,312So let's delete all of these, because we don't,
00:11:36,310well actually before we delete them,
00:11:37,750let's talk about one more thing.
00:11:39,248So now that I've got these different lines,
00:11:41,247one of the really cool things about
00:11:45,965the pencil tool in animate is this width selector.
    00:11:49,768So I've got just a straight width.
00:11:51,691But then I can do this, and that gives me
00:11:53,771more of a cartoon line variation.
00:11:56,448Again I can make that bigger and that's gonna let
00:11:58,790you see a little bit more how that works.
00:12:00,928Now if I select each segment, you can see the
00:12:03,531different way that width is applied.
00:12:05,872But if I select the whole thing and apply it,
00:12:08,288it's gonna apply it to the whole distance.
00:12:11,232And again, something like this, we get even
    00:12:13,851more line variation.
00:12:15,371There are a bunch of different ones to choose from.
00:12:17,312I think for this explosion, I'm gonna stick with this one.
00:12:22,521So let's just keep that setup in our settings.
00:12:24,971I don't think I want quite that much width.
00:12:28,907Let's take that down to a line width of five.
00:12:33,510And let's just delete all these.
00:12:38,891So, now I'm gonna go back over here.
00:12:42,390I'm gonna grab my drawing tablet.
00:12:45,887You can use a Cintiq if you want.
00:12:48,571I'm just using a tablet for this one. Either will work.
00:12:51,451Honestly, a drawing table has really changed everything.
00:12:55,245If you're not using one, definitely consider it.
00:12:57,910So the first I wanna do is I'm gonna zoom a little bit
00:13:01,886just so I can focus on this part of what I'm working on.
00:13:07,307And then I'm gonna go down here, again that pencil tool
00:13:09,707is grabbed and I'm just gonna sort of
00:13:15,467draw this blobby little line around here maybe like that.
    00:13:21,984And those aren't quite connected.
00:13:25,286I'm gonna connect them like that.
00:13:27,643And then you see you got that funky little lump there.
00:13:30,043I'm just gonna go ahead and grab that and delete it.
00:13:32,136And that should look just fine.
    00:13:33,760This isn't the color I want.
00:13:35,360I think I want my plasma ball to be one of the blues.
00:13:39,163Again because I've got those swatches saved in there,
00:13:41,883that's gonna be pretty easy to do.
00:13:44,198Oops, and I didn't even select the swatch.
    00:13:46,363There we go.
00:13:47,483So we've got that swatch, that's looking pretty
    00:13:50,761plasma ball like.
00:13:53,457We'll get the outline of the ball set first.
00:13:56,659And then we'll go from there with filling it in
00:13:59,536with kind of a plasma texture.
00:14:01,776So I'm gonna two frames ahead.
00:14:04,496I'm gonna animate this on two's.
00:14:06,134It's not gonna be a super fast animation
00:14:08,395or anything super detailed, so two should be sufficient.
00:14:11,595I'm gonna hit the F6 key to add a key frame.
00:14:14,176And then the back space to delete the contents
    00:14:16,614of that key frame.
00:14:17,934So I've got one plasma frame.
00:14:21,056Actually before we do the next one, whoops,
00:14:24,451let's just grab this and adjust it a little bit.
00:14:29,313And so that's one of the things I just love about
00:14:32,278working in Animate, is the ability to just sort of
00:14:35,734drag these lines around and edit them
00:14:39,867in a really intuitive and friendly way.
00:14:42,694Again, these are all vector lines.
00:14:44,758So we can drag them around like you would
00:14:47,490expect to be able to drag a curve line in Illustrator.
00:14:50,875And then again, we'll be able to scale them
00:14:53,216to any resolution that we want.
00:14:55,676That's gonna make this an invaluable part of
00:14:57,915our effects library that we're building here.
00:15:00,075We can export this at 1920 by 80.
00:15:05,153We can export it at 4K if we need to. It doesn't matter.
00:15:08,875It's vector, it's not gonna lose any resolution.
00:15:10,854So that's another real benefit to working this way.
00:15:14,774So we want to go back to this frame.
00:15:16,633We want to draw a new frame, but we want to see
00:15:19,734the other frame, so onion skinning.
00:15:21,635You can see down here I've got two different buttons.
00:15:23,515This is the regular onion skin button
00:15:25,354which is showing me the whole line, and then
00:15:27,318I've got onion skin outlines which I think
00:15:30,678we're gonna use this one in our case
00:15:32,736because it's just gonna make it a little easier
    00:15:34,838to see what's going on.
00:15:36,134And for that matter, let's just grab this line.
00:15:39,696And for now, what I did is set that back
    00:15:42,998to a straight line.
    00:15:44,454Let's just close this group.
00:15:48,331That's gonna give us a little more room to see down here.
00:15:50,358So I set that back to a regular straight width
00:15:53,718just 'cause it's gonna make it easier for us
00:15:56,155to see what's going on as we work.
    00:15:58,953And then that's a five.
00:16:01,078Let's go ahead and set that back to three,
00:16:04,614it feels a little bit thick.
00:16:06,075Okay, so back to our second frame.
00:16:07,798So now we can see our first frame.
00:16:09,494And what I want is just a few different places
00:16:11,398I want the plasma to bubble out a bit.
00:16:13,296So the onion skin is on. I can see my last frame.
00:16:16,155I'm just gonna really quickly go through and
00:16:21,570draw some places where it's bubbling out.
00:16:25,054I'm just gonna pick about three spots to have
    00:16:28,774that plasma really bubble up.
00:16:36,278Looks like down there looks like a good spot to do it.
00:16:38,715So now you see we've got some bubbling spots.
    00:16:41,798Again, F6, back space.
00:16:45,971And on this one, I'm gonna have this, some of the bubble up
00:16:49,615and some of them bubble back down.
00:16:51,595So this one's gonna stay at the same level but move a bit.
00:16:56,416Actually, let's go back and start that over.
00:17:03,974Some of these are bubbling up,
00:17:05,536some of these are bubbling down.
00:17:11,035And I've got that nice guideline to show me
00:17:14,770what happened just before this frame.
    00:17:21,494And what did we say?
00:17:22,854I think we said we were gonna do about six frames.
    00:17:25,755This'll be our fourth.
00:17:28,918So bubble this guy back down and maybe this guy
    00:17:31,554comes up a little bit.
00:17:32,875This is coming back down and this guy comes up a little bit.
    00:17:36,715This comes down.
00:17:42,211And this doesn't have to be really super crazy detailed.
00:17:47,936What I want to see, I want to see what my first frame,
00:17:52,395because this is gonna loop, I want to be able to see
00:17:54,758the first frame when I draw the sixth frame
    00:17:56,955and the fifth frame.
00:17:58,774So I'm just gonna do here is right click on this guy,
00:18:04,155copy frames, and then so that's gonna be my fifth frame.
00:18:07,718That's gonna be my sixth frame.
00:18:09,638And then right here, I'm gonna paste frames.
00:18:13,574All that's gonna do is allow me to see that result,
00:18:18,054that goal with the onion skin tool.
00:18:23,798I'm just gonna even some of that out.
    00:18:29,915And then the sixth frame.
00:18:31,654So now is where having that goal in the green
00:18:34,993is gonna really come in hand 'cause we're effectively
00:18:37,616at this point just drawing an in-between
00:18:39,812to get us back to the beginning of that loop.
00:18:43,574And so this one is gonna go right along in between
    00:18:49,772what that's got going on.
00:18:51,434Alright, so that's looking pretty close.
00:18:53,536And now we don't need this guide any more.
00:18:55,958I'm gonna turn off onion skinning. I'm gonna delete this.
00:18:58,678And let's just see what that looks like.
00:19:02,016Actually, one thing I wanna do is I wanna turn on
00:19:04,016this button which is, actually not that button,
    00:19:07,089that's edit multiple frames.
00:19:08,554We're gonna turn on this button which is gonna allow me
    00:19:10,576to loop the playback.
00:19:12,253So I've turned on that loop button and then
00:19:14,374I just drag that little looping indicator to either
00:19:16,952end of what we just worked on.
00:19:19,274And then I'm gonna stop at the beginning
00:19:21,195and just hit the enter button.
    00:19:22,976(animation beeping)
00:19:27,558Okay, so that let's me see basically what
00:19:30,358that looping animation's gonna look like.
00:19:32,332It's just an outline right now, but I think it's
    00:19:34,931gonna do okay for us.
00:19:36,425It's sort of bubbling around, that's just great.
00:19:39,730So let's turn off that loop button.
00:19:42,013And the next thing I want to do is I want to give
00:19:44,792this a little more of a cartoony look.
00:19:46,930So I'm going to, the first thing I want
00:19:49,192is it to have a fill.
00:19:50,429So let's go to the fill here, and let's create
    00:19:53,051a new gradient fill.
00:19:54,472Again, we're using our swatches that we created earlier.
00:19:58,882And let's go from this very dark blue
00:20:04,466to this light blue, maybe not quite that dark.
00:20:09,857How about let's go from this blue to that blue.
00:20:11,955And then we're gonna drag this guy over to the middle
    00:20:13,840because we really want,
00:20:16,038actually I want the opposite of that.
00:20:17,937I want the middle to be blue.
00:20:21,601And what I'm doing here is I'm just double clicking
00:20:23,636on these to set the color.
00:20:28,254And then if I want another, I can click here.
    00:20:30,695I don't want another.
00:20:32,955So to get rid of this, I'm gonna drag it off,
    00:20:34,876and then it's gone.
00:20:36,152So this is a nice king of gradient fill.
00:20:38,497Let's just drop it in there and see how it looks.
00:20:41,238It's not quite in the middle.
00:20:42,860Keep in mind, your gradient center will be
00:20:45,217where you click that fill tool.
00:20:47,318So actually, I think I do want another here.
00:20:51,980Let's go, I don't want it quite that dark,
00:20:54,817but I want something in between those two.
00:20:57,820So the easiest way to do that is just to click right here.
00:21:02,474That's gonna create a new one.
00:21:05,937And then we'll delete this guy.
00:21:08,175And we'll have that guy there.
00:21:10,233We created the swatch but we didn't have that selected
00:21:12,678so it's not editing that how we expected.
00:21:18,038So what I'm gonna do here is add swatch.
00:21:20,156Now I've got as you can see down here, I've got that
00:21:22,552gradient saved, which is exactly what I wanted.
00:21:24,876So now I can click, oh, well that filled it.
00:21:28,977I was gonna say I can also just click this, select it,
00:21:33,273and drop it down, and set it to anything.
00:21:35,978And then when I set it back to that,
00:21:37,536it comes back and it's exactly that gradient.
00:21:39,717Again it's still not quite how I want it.
00:21:43,100It's not quite plasma bally enough.
00:21:47,436Let's just play with that a little.
00:21:49,057What I want is those edges to feel like
    00:21:51,158they're glowing a little bit
00:21:52,657and the center to feel like it's kind of about
00:21:55,580the size and shape of the planet.
00:21:57,676And that's looking about right to me.
00:22:03,019So again, let's add that swatch so we get
    00:22:06,554that exact gradient.
00:22:08,300And then this outline, I want it to be
00:22:10,615a little bit of a contrast.
00:22:12,137So I'm gonna go back and let's make the outline,
00:22:19,157just gonna play around here and see which of these
    00:22:21,795looks the best.
00:22:23,617Let's go back here and select this one.
00:22:25,249And then down here, I'm gonna again grab that
00:22:27,318toony outline, so now you see you've got line width,
00:22:30,076looks a little more hand drawn, a little more cartoony.
    00:22:34,396Let's dial this guy back.
00:22:36,174In fact, let's just keep this just a two color gradient.
00:22:42,396That's looking almost exactly like I want it.
00:22:45,697The one thing I want is it to be
    00:22:49,260centered a little bit better.
00:22:51,718In fact, what I can do here is just see the outline.
00:22:55,676I just wanna get a quick guide for where that planet is.
    00:23:00,577So I'm gonna create a new layer.
    00:23:05,036Let's move Animate over.
00:23:06,667In fact I'm just gonna make Animate
    00:23:10,392a little bit less wide.
00:23:12,611And you'll be able to see After Effects behind there.
00:23:16,938But that'll let us just see these menus and things
00:23:19,362without having to constantly move Animate back and forth.
00:23:22,264So I'm gonna create a new layer and this is gonna just
    00:23:25,805be our planet guide layer.
00:23:29,981I'm just gonna do a quick circle.
00:23:33,325Oops, in fact, let's make sure that we are drawing no fill
00:23:39,485and a plane, let's go with a red line just so it stands out.
00:23:44,344Again, this is just gonna be a guide.
00:23:46,536That's all I want it for.
    00:23:48,045That looks about right.
00:23:51,565I'm just gonna match that up.
00:23:53,362And really all I want out of this layer
00:23:55,401is it for it to be there, and be an outline.
00:23:57,900So I just hit that outline, which basically
00:24:00,882has it showing up only as an outline.
00:24:04,498Okay, so that's gonna work perfectly for us.
00:24:07,978So, back to our actual frames.
00:24:12,984We don't want those in outline.
00:24:15,177We want to actually see that just to get an idea.
00:24:17,857Actually, let's pop this guy in front of here.
00:24:20,535So that's gonna help us even more.
00:24:22,396So now we can see that green outline
00:24:24,039and that's gonna help us to center those gradients.
00:24:27,057So let's get this guy back to, again let's grab this.
00:24:32,095Make sure we have a swatch for the latest.
00:24:35,175And set this guy to that latest swatch.
00:24:38,517And we want to just click right in the middle.
00:24:44,337Alright, so that's looking pretty centered with that.
00:24:46,839You can see that faint green outline
    00:24:48,599of this guide layer here.
00:24:50,735If I turn it off and back on again, it makes it
    00:24:52,396a little easier to see.
00:24:54,199So what we want to do is we want that in every single frame.
00:25:00,359So let's just go ahead and click through.
00:25:02,855This guy is not filling. Let's find out why.
00:25:09,217It might be easier to see if I turn off the outline.
00:25:12,817The reason this isn't feeling, and what that's telling me
00:25:15,975is that somewhere it's not connected.
00:25:19,074And it looks like here might be the culprit.
00:25:22,177And so what I did is I just grabbed what looked
00:25:24,657like a jagged outline until it had that little dot
00:25:26,855which mean that it was connecting.
00:25:29,093And now, let's see if it worked.
00:25:31,917I have this problem pretty frequently.
00:25:34,495So don't be surprised if you think something's connected
00:25:36,615and it is in fact not.
00:25:38,855So now that filled. Looks like we fixed the problem.
00:25:42,156Again, we've got something here not connecting.
00:25:44,535Let's see if we can find out. I suspect it's over there.
00:25:52,775And it's not unusual to find if you pick up your pencil
00:25:56,497a lot or your pen on your table a lot when you draw,
00:25:59,559it's not unusual that you'll find several areas
00:26:02,556where you don't have the lines connected as you thought.
00:26:07,319And so then the last thing we're gonna do is
00:26:10,236we're gonna make sure that we have the same outline
    00:26:12,076on each of these.
00:26:13,879So just gonna select that outline.
    00:26:17,436Grab that color. Grab this.
00:26:20,897An easier way for doing this for each and everyone
00:26:24,535one of these, and in fact, I think I'm gonna
00:26:27,959change that color yet again back to that lighter one.
00:26:31,675But so, instead of grabbing each and everyone of these,
00:26:35,377we've got this setup how we want it.
00:26:37,398We've got the line width set and all of that stuff.
00:26:39,857So what we can do is we can grab this ink bottle tool.
00:26:43,893What the ink bottle tool does is it adds an outline
00:26:46,375to something that doesn't have an outline.
00:26:49,335So, if I dropped ink bottle tool over top of the
00:26:52,897outline that's there, it replaces it with the
    00:26:56,898settings that we currently have.
00:27:02,556So now I've got some funky fun line wave.
    00:27:05,925(animation beeping)
00:27:09,184This one is not looking exactly how I thought it would.
    00:27:13,823So let's figure out why.
00:27:19,439Looks like we lost some of our line there.
00:27:21,944So let's go delete what we've got there and just
00:27:24,904go back with that ink bottle tool and see
00:27:26,701if we can figure out what's happening.
00:27:29,901And sometimes you get some wonkiness here.
00:27:32,799There we go. So that gives us the full outline.
00:27:35,704Just now and again, especially with these varied
00:27:38,297line widths, you get an unexpected result.
00:27:41,922Okay, so what we had to do there just to stop
00:27:44,344that weirdness is just select a slightly different one.
00:27:47,122I think it's gonna still match up fine with everything,
00:27:49,522it actually matches a little better.
    00:27:51,341(animation beeping)
00:27:52,878Okay, so we got our plasma ball.
    00:27:54,701That is looking pretty good.
00:27:56,620I'm gonna keep my planet guide because I'm gonna
00:27:59,278use that for the explosion that I create as well.
00:28:02,221But our plasma ball is looking pretty good for now.
00:28:05,085So let's just lock off that layer
00:28:07,384and move on to the next one.
00:28:10,102Okay so to get started with that ship animation,
00:28:12,423I want to find a frame where the ship is about horizontal.
00:28:16,642Okay, so this looks like it's gonna be the one.
00:28:19,679I've got a key frame right here.
00:28:21,581I added that with shift F6.
00:28:23,841So what I want to do is be able to draw all of the flames
00:28:27,042coming out of the ship with the ship in this position.
00:28:30,008But that's gonna work because if I draw frame
00:28:32,424and then scroll the timeline, the ship moves.
00:28:34,701So what I'm gonna do is draw the first frame here
00:28:37,485and then I'm gonna create a movie clip.
00:28:39,421And in that movie clip is where I'm gonna do the animation.
00:28:42,002So instead of using the pencil tool like we used last time,
00:28:45,256I'm gonna use the paint brush tool for this one.
00:28:47,920It's similar to the pencil but it works just
    00:28:50,141a little bit different.
00:28:51,384We can draw as a fill or we can draw as a stroke.
00:28:54,456We're gonna stick with a stroke.
00:28:56,002We've got some different options over here
00:28:57,784as far as object drawing, similar options that we had
    00:29:00,525to the pencil tool.
00:29:04,205Actually, I am gonna go with smooth,
00:29:06,781I was gonna with ink but we're just gonna grab that.
    00:29:09,586I've set it to orange.
00:29:11,760I'm gonna keep the same funky line width and then
00:29:15,325I'm just gonna go ahead and draw some flames
    00:29:18,903coming out of that ship.
00:29:20,461In fact, let's zoom in a little bit so that we can just
00:29:24,104be a little bit more accurate here.
00:29:26,663Let's just start with a straight up line.
00:29:30,702I think that's gonna give us a little more accuracy
00:29:33,503when we're just getting laid out.
00:29:37,917And again, I've got the advantage of just sort of
00:29:41,141grabbing and moving those curves with these vector tools
00:29:46,003which is just a really nice precise way to edit.
00:29:52,965I think I'm gonna do these flames about 15 frames or so.
00:29:57,983Okay, so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna take all
00:30:00,783of this guy, let me just put a fill in that really quick
00:30:05,002so it doesn't look quite so empty.
00:30:08,084Again, the same way we filled that other guy
00:30:09,866but we're gonna use a solid fill on this one.
00:30:12,202And then I'm just gonna select this whole thing
    00:30:14,303and I'm gonna hit the F8 key.
00:30:17,124So what that's done is that creating a symbol.
00:30:20,426In Animate, there are different types of symbols.
00:30:23,160We are gonna use this as a graphic symbol.
00:30:26,263Basically the ones we're gonna talk about really quickly
    00:30:28,862are movie clip and graphic.
00:30:30,442They're both pretty relevant to this.
00:30:32,682So the movie clip is something
    00:30:34,483that is gonna loop continuously.
00:30:36,682The important thing to note though is if I were to make
00:30:39,124this a movie clip, and actually I can show you
00:30:42,303the difference once we get this animated,
00:30:43,903but if I were going to make this a movie clip,
00:30:45,638it's gonna show up in its first frame on the timeline.
00:30:48,826But when I export it, it's gonna be looped.
00:30:51,781However, if I export as an image sequence,
00:30:54,599we're not gonna see the exact effects we want.
00:30:57,722So I'm gonna stick with graphic.
00:30:59,601And I'm gonna call this MC just for moving clip
00:31:03,524or motion clip, and we'll call it MC Flames.
00:31:08,442So what that did now is this is now a clip.
00:31:11,146To just really quickly explain the difference
00:31:13,402between a graphic clip and a regular movie clip,
00:31:18,164I'm gonna double click in there, and I'm just
    00:31:22,042gonna create a second frame.
00:31:24,164Actually, before we create that second frame,
00:31:26,506let's go back to this paint brush tool.
00:31:29,183And I just wanna really quickly
00:31:31,225give this just a little bit more.
00:31:36,506Okay, so that's just a little bit of extra, you know,
    00:31:40,084dimension to our flames.
    00:31:42,164So that's my first frame.
00:31:43,764I'm gonna go two frames ahead.
    00:31:45,263Again, I'm animating on two's.
00:31:47,263Delete that. I'm gonna turn on those onion skin.
00:31:50,302Ah, I can't really see, so I'm gonna go with regular
00:31:52,762onion skin, those outlines weren't very visible.
00:31:55,798I want to see the full deal.
00:31:58,383So I'm gonna draw a second frame here.
00:32:01,242And then we'll go back to talking about those
    00:32:03,124different types of movie clips.
00:32:05,344So I can see my onion skin and what I want to do
00:32:08,303is have different parts of this expand and contract.
    00:32:12,866So I'm gonna have
00:32:16,525this edge here sort of grow.
00:32:18,884This one is gonna sort of wiggle up a little bit more.
00:32:28,047This one's gonna grow where this one's gonna shrink.
00:32:33,885And this is just if you study flames in the way they move,
00:32:41,704it's pretty typical for one portion of the flame
    00:32:44,687to expand while another contracts.
00:32:48,981And then we're gonna go ahead and add that
00:32:53,399little bit of detail in there.
00:32:57,004This just gives it a little bit more of a cartoony look.
00:33:01,644It's a little bit more fun.
00:33:04,320Let's go and delete those little extra mess up lines we did.
00:33:09,562And again, we're gonna grab that fill,
00:33:14,284back to that lighter swatch, fill there.
00:33:18,179And so now I've got two frames of flame.
00:33:22,000And we can go back out to scene one.
00:33:24,716You'll see at the top there, like if I double click
00:33:26,732to go back into the movie clip, you can see that
00:33:28,774your scene one and see flames.
00:33:30,436If I click scene one, I'm back out of it.
00:33:32,734And so this is where we can really see the difference.
00:33:35,236So this is on the stage as
    00:33:40,367a graphic clip.
00:33:43,252So if I go to frames forward I can see the next frame of it.
00:33:47,075I can see how that flame is changing.
00:33:49,454Whereas if I were to grab this and I were to
00:33:54,174whoops not there, if I were to make it a movie clip,
00:33:57,476then all I'm gonna see is the first frame.
00:33:59,433I'm not gonna be able to scrub through it
    00:34:01,046on the main timeline.
00:34:02,326That's not what I want. I want to see my animation.
00:34:04,443I want my animation to export exactly like
    00:34:06,246I'm expecting it.
00:34:08,069So I want to be able to see everything.
00:34:10,011So, we're gonna keep that as a graphic clip.
00:34:12,150And then with graphic clips, I can do different
    00:34:15,193things with them.
00:34:16,393If I want this to play over, and over, and over,
00:34:18,572I just set it to loop, which is what it is now.
00:34:20,529I can also set it to play once.
00:34:22,430I can set it to play once and start on frame two.
00:34:27,786So I guess the difference isn't so evident there.
00:34:30,814So if I go back to starting on frame one here,
00:34:33,070or if I set it to start on frame three,
00:34:35,089which is our second frame, you'll see it's changing
    00:34:37,411where it starts.
00:34:38,670I want it to play once.
00:34:40,211I want it to play on frame one.
00:34:43,353I can also do a single frame.
00:34:44,873If I just want to hold it for a while.
00:34:46,872So I can do all of this with the same clip
00:34:49,444just in how I set it to show up.
    00:34:51,571So graphic clip's super flexible.
00:34:53,969So we're gonna stick with graphic clip.
00:34:57,171We're gonna go with play once for frame one.
00:34:58,931And then we're gonna go back in here,
00:35:00,531double click inside of it, and just keep on animating.
00:35:03,387So I've sped this up a little bit,
00:35:05,386but don't be afraid to just play with those flames.
00:35:08,067Think of them as little wiggly snakes and just
    00:35:10,885have one while you're drawing.
00:35:13,383So now we want to get back out to what we had
    00:35:16,346as our starting frame.
00:35:18,044And that's gonna help me create my in-between.
    00:35:20,506An in-between is exactly that.
00:35:22,240It's a shape in between two other shapes.
00:35:25,204So we want something in between our current last frame and
00:35:29,376that beginning frame what will bridge the gap so to speak.
00:35:33,946I'm gonna copy frame, I'm gonna put this here.
00:35:41,525That's gonna give us somewhat of a straight
    00:35:43,925in between to draw here.
    00:35:45,325We might actually need two.
00:35:47,328That's a pretty drastic difference in the way
    00:35:49,626those frames are looking.
00:35:54,823And I'm just gonna draw the first one closer
00:35:56,767to the previous frame, and the second one closer
00:36:01,692to that beginning frame that we copied to the end.
    00:36:08,250Alright, so we've got, let's see we're gonna delete
00:36:11,947this guy 'cause he was just there to give us a reference.
00:36:18,645So we've got a few frames of animation here.
00:36:22,910One thing we're gonna do before we double this
00:36:25,871is we're gonna go back and add a little bit of,
00:36:31,008just some little things coming off of those flames.
00:36:34,330So let's just grab our brush tool really quickly
00:36:37,711and speed through some of this addition
00:36:40,748of little flame bits flying off the end.
00:36:43,411I wanted to go back out here and what I'm gonna do
00:36:47,834is make this a nested movie clip.
00:36:50,532So actually, just to see what we've got here.
00:36:53,448I'm gonna go to loop and I'm just gonna play this.
    00:36:59,354And it's looking pretty good.
00:37:01,290But we want it to be a little bit longer.
00:37:03,449We want it to be longer without having to draw
00:37:06,111any more frames because we've got some good variation
    00:37:08,670in our frames already.
00:37:11,471So I'm gonna make a nested movie clip.
00:37:13,447I'm gonna select this, I'm gonna hit F8, and again
00:37:15,850this is gonna be MC Flames, let's just call it
00:37:20,031Flames Multi because it's gonna be multiple flames.
00:37:23,732And then we're gonna go in here.
00:37:25,530And so now what we've got is this.
00:37:28,207It's only by default when we create a new movie clip
00:37:31,311it creates it with one frame.
00:37:32,874So we're gonna have to add frames to see
    00:37:35,290all of our animation.
00:37:36,852I think we had, I just double clicked to get in there.
00:37:39,071It looks like the last frame of that was 14.
00:37:41,914So let's go back out to Flames Multi.
00:37:44,149We'll just go to 14 and hit F5.
00:37:46,874That's gonna give us all of our frames.
00:37:50,532So now, what we want to do to double the length of this
00:37:54,591is I'm just gonna go ahead and duplicate this layer.
00:37:58,629I'm gonna drag it out here.
00:38:01,289This doesn't always work, it depends on how well
    00:38:03,754our animation matches up.
00:38:06,487But with this selected, I'm gonna go to modify transform.
00:38:14,349And I'm just gonna flip vertical.
00:38:16,405And let's just see if this works.
00:38:19,547We may have to draw another couple of frames
00:38:21,770to make this work, but let's, yeah, okay.
00:38:25,050So I've got this vertical flip here.
00:38:30,170And it doesn't match up quite as nicely as I'd hoped.
00:38:34,588But if I go up here and then I just do a quick rotate,
00:38:42,792that's gonna be a little bit better.
00:38:44,351So I think what I can do here, what I can basically do is
00:38:50,830get away with doing half the animation for twice the time.
00:38:55,988And I think it's gonna still look alright.
    00:38:58,191So let's give this a try.
00:39:00,948The next thing we're gonna do is go back into that clip
00:39:03,746and we want to fix our line weight.
00:39:06,350So we went back to that straight up line weight
00:39:10,474just for the purpose of getting everything drawn out
00:39:14,303so that it wasn't affecting our perception of the drawing.
00:39:19,666But now we want to go back and we want to make it a weight
00:39:23,629of three, and we want to give it some more variation.
00:39:27,908This is also gonna help us to see all the places where we
00:39:30,890have little extra segments that need to be cleaned up.
    00:39:33,711Sometimes these'll be happy accidents.
00:39:36,385Like right here, I think that's gonna look pretty cool.
00:39:40,144And then in here, we can select this line.
00:39:46,810We just want that to be fill.
    00:39:48,968Actually, maybe not.
00:39:50,031It does look a little better with the line.
    00:39:51,428So we'll just leave it.
00:39:53,130But yeah, so this is a happy accident.
    00:39:55,231We're gonna leave that guy.
00:39:57,450But a lot of these segments, you'll find that
    00:40:00,330they need to be deleted.
00:40:03,012And actually, what I'm gonna do is select the
00:40:05,252whole frame and then just deselect the fills
00:40:07,952'cause that's gonna be a little quicker in this case.
00:40:12,224And as I go through, I'm just gonna delete
00:40:14,132and of those funky little edges that appear
00:40:16,532once I change to that different line width.
00:40:20,668That said, just takes a few minutes to go through
00:40:23,172and make sure that all looks super tight
    00:40:26,469just like you want it.
00:40:27,992Okay, so back out to Flame Multi.
00:40:30,752Let's just play this and see how it looks.
00:40:33,970In fact, let's try that loop.
    00:40:43,392It's looking pretty good.
00:40:45,072You know, I'm pretty happy with it for now.
00:40:48,475So let's just stop that, stop the loop.
00:40:50,137We're gonna go back out here.
00:40:52,434It's not following our ship because we're gonna
00:40:54,996take care of that part in After Effects.
00:40:57,156But for now, I think it's looking pretty okay.
    00:40:59,257We've got a nice flame.
00:41:00,857So, ship flames, we can chalk those to being done
00:41:05,257and move on to our explosion.
00:41:11,358Okay, so we are gonna do our explosion
    00:41:14,217a little bit differently.
00:41:16,676We're gonna go back to where we've got that
00:41:20,373plasma ball ending over the earth.
00:41:23,796I'm gonna set a key frame there.
00:41:26,100Remember, we created that green layer,
00:41:29,198that light outline that we can see.
00:41:31,018We're just gonna do that as a guide for our explosions.
00:41:34,318But what I'm gonna do is instead of drawing outlines
00:41:37,220like we did for the flames and like we did for the
00:41:39,577plasma ball, which actually we're gonna make disappear
00:41:42,836just so that we're not distracted by them.
00:41:45,737We're gonna animate this one using fills.
00:41:48,441And we're gonna use fills and gradients at the same time.
00:41:51,072And in a minute you'll see why this is gonna make
00:41:53,396this process just really nice and fast for us.
00:41:57,438So smoke is a lot different than flames.
00:42:00,900It's lighter, it's wispier, it tends to float
00:42:04,356instead of lick the air the way the flames do.
00:42:08,057So the way the smoke is gonna work is it's gonna
00:42:10,820explode out really fast and then it's gonna
00:42:13,556take its time dissipating in a wispy floaty sort of way.
00:42:20,697We're gonna use gradients to show that floatiness.
00:42:24,638With this one, we're gonna do a gradient but we're gonna
00:42:28,935have it be more of a puffy smoke type gradient.
00:42:32,100So what I'm gonna do is the very outer edge of it,
00:42:34,697I'm gonna go with white and then
00:42:37,860the inner most part is gonna be that dark orange
00:42:41,396because it is smoke, it is smoke coming from
    00:42:46,878our exploding stuff.
00:42:48,457So let's see, this gradient looks pretty good.
    00:42:52,697Might get us close.
00:42:54,638We'll have to experiment a little and see.
00:42:56,996We may change this but let's go ahead and add
00:42:59,060a swatch just so we have a save of this.
00:43:01,556And them I'm gonna use this paintbrush tool.
00:43:04,036And so you see the paintbrush tool unlike the
00:43:06,457paintbrush tool we used here, sorry this is
    00:43:08,260just the brush tool.
00:43:10,180Not the paintbrush tool but the brush tool.
00:43:12,217It's got a little bit different set of options down here.
00:43:15,596So with this one, we were drawing outlines.
00:43:18,478With this one, we're drawing straight up fills
00:43:21,417with no outline, so you can see, you can do object drawing.
    00:43:25,518We're not gonna do that.
00:43:27,376We are gonna do the brush mode as just to paint normal.
00:43:32,045Later one, we'll use paint fills to paint over
    00:43:34,118something we've selected.
00:43:36,462And then the brush size, we're gonna go with big.
00:43:40,564And then here, you can use pressure and use tilt.
00:43:45,220We'll give it a try using pressure, but usually
00:43:48,641I don't actually press that hard on my tablet.
    00:43:51,537So I usually get a better result if I don't
00:43:54,580but let's just see how that looks
    00:43:57,879so that's looking pretty cool.
00:43:59,759I mean for just a little ball of smoke, we got all that
00:44:03,097just by doing that teeny tiny bit of effort.
00:44:07,780And actually, that worked out pretty well using pressure
00:44:10,719so I'm gonna stick with it.
00:44:12,479Again, I'm gonna go out here. I'm gonna F6 delete.
00:44:16,360And I'm gonna turn onion skinning.
00:44:20,201Go back so I can see that.
00:44:21,599So that was our first frame of smoke.
00:44:23,657Our second frame of smoke, we want it to be about halfway.
00:44:32,799And what I'm doing is filling this in.
00:44:36,559That's because you'll see if I start again, same frame,
00:44:42,980it draws a new gradient inside.
00:44:45,676And that's actually a really powerful little trick
00:44:48,719that we want to use to keep making this smoke.
    00:44:53,103So that's frame two.
00:44:54,361Smoke's gonna explode out pretty fast.
    00:44:57,060Just zoom out a bit.
00:45:02,020I want this explosion way out here.
00:45:04,900And I don't want to take the time to fill everything in.
00:45:08,059But if I use the fill tool, I get two different gradients.
00:45:11,839I get the one I drew, and the one inside.
00:45:14,059But what I can do is select them both.
00:45:16,703I can go to any old color and then back to that swatch
00:45:19,915in voila, one single gradient, which looks just lovely.
00:45:24,739So this guy, not the best in-between.
00:45:28,799It's not quite as, you now, I've got little,
    00:45:32,997and then I've got big.
00:45:34,303So biggie, smalls, mediums not so quite so medium.
00:45:37,561So I'm just gonna go ahead and quickly,
00:45:39,983instead of drawing it over I'm just gonna transform it.
    00:45:42,760Let's even go 300, well maybe 250.
00:45:50,740Alright, so we've got a pretty good explosion coming out.
00:45:53,401Let's just turn off onion skin so we can.
00:45:57,460That comes out pretty quick. That's exactly what we want.
00:46:01,423Let's go back to biggie here.
00:46:03,742And go ahead and add another a center in.
00:46:08,820And again grabbing that brush tool.
00:46:16,058And I'm doing this one a little bit different.
00:46:18,841So actually, I want this, whoops, careful if you're not,
00:46:26,340if you slide your pen (laughs), you'll probably
    00:46:29,663have that problem too.
00:46:32,820So we want, actually let's undone that,
00:46:37,899go back to how that was.
00:46:40,164I was gonna say we want this inside to be
00:46:42,559part of the outside but we're gonna take this whole section
    00:46:45,924and make it that color.
00:46:47,380And then we're gonna go back to this gradient.
00:46:50,820But we're gonna change this gradient a little bit.
00:46:54,759I'm gonna get rid of that.
00:46:57,140And I want this to be this inner gradient here,
00:46:59,860to be a little bit different.
00:47:02,017I want it to go from super dark to slightly less dark.
00:47:07,419In fact, I may even, let me just reverse that,
    00:47:10,403see how that looks.
    00:47:14,420We can grab this.
00:47:16,520And what I want to illustrate here is that this inner
00:47:22,383smoke ball is sort of, it's kind of imploding on itself.
00:47:26,778It's starting to make a ring of smoke.
00:47:31,198In fact, we want this to be a gradient,
00:47:33,902but not a super strong one.
00:47:35,882So now we can see almost like that smoke
00:47:38,719is kind of starting to form a ring.
00:47:42,221And so then when we go to this next frame,
00:47:48,495let's turn our onion skin back on.
00:47:52,495We can just barely see that outline.
00:47:55,033Let's go ahead and make this, there,
00:47:58,218now we can see that a little bit better.
00:47:59,789We can see where the smoke is starting to become
00:48:02,476like a ring of smoke instead of a straight up puff.
00:48:09,535And then yeah, we're gonna go ahead and go back
    00:48:12,957to that first smoke gradient.
00:48:15,960And draw it just a little bigger than this one.
00:48:23,320In fact, you know what, I'm not totally happy
    00:48:25,480with this frame.
00:48:28,152And the reason is I think I want that ring to be
00:48:32,955a little bit of a contraction of this.
00:48:34,898So actually, I'm gonna copy this with control C,
00:48:37,677I'm gonna go here, delete that, control shift V
00:48:40,600which is gonna paste it in place.
00:48:42,813And then I'm just gonna make it, well let's just say 120.
00:48:48,621And rotate it a little bit.
00:48:52,060In fact, let's even dial it back to 110.
00:48:54,098I just want it to be a little bit different.
00:48:56,520And what's basically happened is that
    00:48:58,795inner part's gone away.
00:49:00,781Let's rotate this a little more.
00:49:07,501Yeah, okay that's gonna look just perfect.
00:49:10,941And so from here, the explosion's not gonna
00:49:14,337necessarily gonna get much bigger but what
00:49:16,717we're gonna start to see is that smoke dissipating
00:49:20,097and so this is another part
00:49:23,880where you're gonna be so happy to use this gradient
00:49:26,477fill painting because it makes it so much easier.
    00:49:31,658Okay, so we have that.
00:49:33,396Oh, we accidentally did too many frames.
00:49:35,741Let's just shift F6, which removes the key frame.
00:49:39,178And that is the same frame.
00:49:41,117So we're gonna go here and we're gonna delete.
00:49:43,677And here is where we're gonna just gradient
00:49:46,200paint dissipating smoke, it's gonna be super fast.
00:49:48,898And it's gonna take about twice as many frames
00:49:51,000to dissipate as it did to get here.
00:49:53,640Alright, so let's take this onion skin off.
00:49:56,938And let's just see what that looks like.
00:50:04,280It almost looks like it's shrinking back on itself
00:50:07,698a little bit, and I don't want that effect.
00:50:10,258So what I'm gonna do, actually let's give this
00:50:14,461a quick loop play to make sure that we are,
00:50:20,197we'll just stretch that out so we can.
00:50:23,158It's pretty close, but what I'm not liking is because
00:50:26,258of the way I straight ahead animated instead of
00:50:29,581working pose to pose, is that these smoke puffs
00:50:35,615are kind of almost contracting back in a little bit.
    00:50:38,553And that's okay a little bit,
00:50:41,357but I don't want it to do that too much.
00:50:43,517So I'm gonna go in and I'm just gonna grab these and
00:50:50,957I'm just gonna smoosh them out a little bit.
00:50:54,194Using that onion skin tool so that I can see pose to pose.
00:50:58,893And so now you see how these are sort of dissipating
00:51:02,994but they're dissipating outward just a little bit.
00:51:06,194And that is the behavior I want.
    00:51:08,056So that's what I'm doing here.
00:51:09,676I'm just moving that in-between frame
    00:51:14,237in line with that idea.
00:51:18,114And then I'll redraw that last frame,
00:51:19,976but that won't take long at all.
00:51:26,274Alright, so now, things are dissipating the way I want.
00:51:29,576And then I'm just gonna again grab that brush tool.
00:51:40,157Alright, so onion skin off, back to that loop tool.
00:51:49,976Yeah, that's looking about how I want it.
    00:51:52,557So finishing touches on this.
00:51:55,814Now, like everything else, we want to add some
00:51:58,055cartoon outlines, so I'm gonna go back to this first one.
00:52:00,893And what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna use that
00:52:04,013ink bottle tool that we talked about briefly
    00:52:07,033a couple of animations back.
    00:52:09,736Let's see, let's make sure.
00:52:12,397I'm just gonna use this guy to make sure
00:52:13,853to get my settings set up.
00:52:15,816That is one of the limitations is that you can't
00:52:17,973really setup the pen tool before the
00:52:20,131ink bottle tool before you use it.
00:52:23,197I like three, I like this width, we'll see how that works.
    00:52:26,712So let's delete this guy.
    00:52:28,333Let's grab that ink bottle.
00:52:31,677And just go frame by frame adding the outlines we want.
00:52:44,957And you do have to click near the edge.
00:52:48,813If you click in the middle, nothing happens because
00:52:50,913when you're using that ink bottle tool, basically it's
00:52:53,874looking for an edge to outline.
00:52:56,955So as long as you click near the edge, or relatively
00:53:00,317close to the edge, you should be okay.
00:53:02,671It doesn't have to be exactly on.
00:53:04,333You can see I'm just clicking kind of close.
    00:53:07,553Sometimes it'll be a miss, but, yeah,
00:53:10,957just as long as there's an edge that the software
00:53:13,732can find nearby, you should be good to go.
00:53:18,013And I think these little tiny ones actually start to look,
00:53:21,416you just make a dot with the brush tool.
00:53:23,853But then you add this funky outline and it starts
00:53:26,813to take on a really neat character that you just
00:53:30,250kind of get for free by combining these two tools.
    00:53:36,935Almost there.
00:53:42,030And then we may play around,
00:53:43,757once we go back to After Effects, we can play around with
    00:53:46,994the opacity of the...
00:53:48,914So I've got the smoke, but what I need now is the fire.
00:53:53,474Every explosion starts with kind of a fireball in it.
00:53:58,477So let's grab all of these.
00:54:00,936And what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna cut the frames.
    00:54:03,514I know that seems risky.
00:54:05,331We're gonna insert a new symbol.
00:54:06,936We're gonna call it MC Explosion. Past frames.
00:54:14,132And so why I did this is because I basically want,
00:54:18,477taking that loop tool away, I want this to
    00:54:23,116have two different layers.
00:54:24,877And it was getting a little bit sloppy here
    00:54:27,813already having this guy.
00:54:29,736So to bring this guy back, now that I made
00:54:33,938the explosion into its own little clip,
00:54:36,674I can bring it back just by grabbing it from over there.
00:54:39,394Again, we want to make it a graphic clip.
00:54:45,357And it should by default because that's
    00:54:47,474what we've been using.
00:54:48,616And so that's gonna work pretty well.
00:54:50,612And so now, we can go back inside it by double clicking.
    00:54:54,178And so that's the smoke.
00:54:55,874I'm gonna call this layer Smoke.
00:54:59,277And I'm gonna make a layer above it
00:55:02,532and I'm gonna call it Fire.
00:55:04,096And that's gonna be our exploding layer.
00:55:07,419So let's F5 to add a frame and then we'll drag that there.
00:55:12,598And what we want to do is basically add some blank frames
00:55:15,659before we get to that smoke.
    00:55:17,656Because before the smoke happens
00:55:19,819we need the explosion to happen.
00:55:21,755And the explosion is gonna be happen.
00:55:25,717Actually, it might even be quicker than this.
00:55:32,381I think we just need about two frames before
    00:55:35,459to add that explosion.
00:55:37,043And so for the explosion it depends on what
    00:55:39,537style you're going for.
00:55:40,899I'm gonna go with an old school comic style,
    00:55:43,136a kablam type of thing.
00:55:45,598You can use the pencil tool, you can use the line tool.
00:55:49,055I'm gonna use the pencil tool and the straighten and that's
00:55:52,019gonna give me a shortcut to a bunch of connected lines.
00:55:55,720So the viewer's not really gonna notice this frame
00:55:58,702but what that's gonna do is give us a reference point
00:56:04,838when we are dragging this around in After Effects.
    00:56:12,760That straighten tool,
00:56:16,360I'm gonna go back to ink,
    00:56:17,741that straighten tool is just
    00:56:20,702straightening a little too much.
00:56:22,739It's taking out all of our fun angles.
00:56:25,982So that's what we're gonna start with there.
00:56:28,883We're gonna just make that plain fill.
00:56:35,363That's gonna be our first frame
00:56:36,840and it's more just for reference so that we don't
00:56:38,979have a blank first frame or something that's so big
00:56:43,599or so small that we can't see.
00:56:46,735Our next frame is gonna be the real deal.
00:56:51,763And again this is our planet for reference
    00:56:54,120that we were using.
00:56:56,158We can still see it because we double click
    00:56:58,083to get inside of this.
00:56:59,480If we had just gone through the library
00:57:01,283and double clicked to get inside this explosion,
00:57:04,483we would not, see now we don't have that reference anymore.
00:57:06,600So if we go back out to scene one, and then go into our
00:57:10,659explosion, that's how we get to still have that reference
00:57:13,283of the size of the planet.
00:57:15,059So let's go ahead and go back to,
00:57:18,899let's see, we were doing the pencil tool.
00:57:21,260And I just wanna make something really big and jagged.
    00:57:31,717Like a comic book explosion.
    00:57:35,480At least that's what I'm hoping.
00:57:38,378Oops, we do not want that to be a curve.
00:57:40,600So let's see if we can straighten this out a little bit.
00:57:48,701There we go. That's where that straighten tool works.
00:57:52,801Just how we want, get the initial drawing with
    00:57:55,763all your pointy goodness.
00:57:58,339And then grab that straighten tool
00:58:00,083and it's just gonna make it all straight lines.
00:58:04,142Eliminates any curves that you accidentally drew.
00:58:08,520And then we're just gonna go and just funk it up
00:58:13,979a little bit by dragging some of these out.
00:58:20,196It's one of the really fun thing about vector
    00:58:24,258animation tools.
00:58:25,582So I've got that outer outline, I want one inside
00:58:29,022of that too, so, I'll have to draw
00:58:32,659this one a little more carefully, just a bit.
    00:58:37,102Not too much.
00:58:38,279We don't want to spend all our time being careful
00:58:41,763because we do want a little bit of spontaneity here.
    00:58:46,579Okay, so again.
00:58:49,960Grab this guy, straighten tool, lovely.
00:58:54,163And let's just go and clean up of those extra lines that...
00:59:02,323And I'm gonna zoom in and do one more level of this.
00:59:07,043Again back to that pencil tool because it's so quick
00:59:10,643even if you draw pretty sloppy.
00:59:17,580Again, that middle star looks terrible.
00:59:22,099And all we need to do is boom, not so terrible anymore.
00:59:28,622These are some great little shortcuts.
00:59:31,833Okay, so now, let's get some fills in there.
00:59:35,880Get this starting to look like a real fireball
    00:59:41,779or real explosion ball.
00:59:45,740And then we'll make the outermost one, the reddest one.
00:59:50,462And I was gonna say we can play with that line weight.
00:59:54,378Let's give it a try, but honestly, I don't know
    00:59:57,198that we're gonna need to.
01:00:01,498Well first of all, let's make these lines
01:00:03,742show up a little bit, and make this out.
01:00:09,443Let's see if this outline white looks okay.
01:00:12,803You know what, it does, let's go with it.
01:00:16,542And let's take all these, and let's just see
01:00:18,862what they look like with the different line weight.
01:00:20,963The great thing about this is that if they look terrible,
01:00:23,523we can just change it right back.
01:00:25,763I'm not super pleased with that one, but this one's
    01:00:28,336looking pretty decent.
01:00:31,059Let's just clean up these little slops.
01:00:35,923I saw one down there too.
    01:00:40,462That's kind of fun.
01:00:42,339I'm gonna make that line wight a little thicker.
01:00:45,400Three seems to be working well for us today.
01:00:50,099Odd numbers tend to do that.
01:00:53,000Alright, so that's level two of the explosion
01:00:56,243or well, it's frame three, but it's the second drawn frame.
01:01:01,720And then for this one, we're just gonna do
01:01:06,120the same exact thing and shrink it back a little bit.
01:01:11,800Let's shrink it back to about half its size,
    01:01:16,280maybe rotate it, boom.
    01:01:20,643Smoke. Okay so...
01:01:25,800And you know what, we want to overlap that smoke just a bit.
01:01:29,923So let's how that looks. Let's just go ahead and play that.
    01:01:36,680That's pretty good.
01:01:39,498There are a couple of ways we can do this
01:01:41,598so the first one is that we can take all of these,
01:01:44,659and we can cut the frames out,
01:01:46,797and again we can go in and insert the new symbol
01:01:48,419and we can call it MC Smoke.
01:01:50,776We can paste the frames. Let's go back to scene one.
01:01:54,920There's our explosion. We'll go back into that.
01:01:57,779And we had overlapped it by two frames.
    01:02:00,374So we'll put an F6 there.
01:02:02,216Go in that library and grab MC Smoke.
01:02:09,496Whoops, didn't mean to drag that guy.
01:02:13,256Let's turn this off so we can see smoke.
01:02:17,518I turned it off. I guess we didn't actually turn it off.
01:02:20,078We just put it to outline mode.
01:02:26,259So now we've got our smoke in there.
01:02:29,975Now, we can take this whole movie clip, graphic clip,
01:02:33,939and we can adjust the alpha value of it.
01:02:40,696There are a few limitations to doing it this way.
01:02:45,219We may have to zoom in to see them.
01:02:47,118Okay, and so you can see if I go up to a hundred percent,
01:02:51,118I've got a solid outline and I've got a gradient
01:02:53,939for the inside, but if I start going down,
01:02:55,976that outline becomes a double outline.
    01:02:59,539And that's basically the limitation.
01:03:02,718What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna keep this fully opaque
01:03:05,939and I'm gonna export these two things separately.
01:03:08,200So I'm gonna export MC Smoke separately from
    01:03:12,456MC Explosion Fire.
01:03:16,397We'll just cut frames and then we will,
01:03:22,396MC Explosion Fire, paste frames here.
01:03:30,922Okay, time to start our effects archive.
01:03:35,974Let's just save this file so we don't lose anything.
    01:03:38,649I'm gonna go file new.
01:03:40,411I'm gonna make this one for the plasma ball.
01:03:43,286So I'm gonna make it about the same aspect ratio
01:03:48,566as the circle, 24 frames per second.
01:03:50,928Again, it's an action (mumbles) file.
    01:03:53,264It doesn't matter too much.
01:03:55,286And then what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna go in here
01:03:58,448and I'm gonna grab let's see, that was gonna be,
01:04:02,406oh plasma, we didn't make that into a clip yet.
    01:04:05,344So let's do that.
01:04:06,907Let's cut frames, insert new symbol, MC Plasma Ball.
01:04:17,568Paste frames, now we've got our plasma ball all on its own.
01:04:22,784Go back to scene one just for consistency sake,
01:04:27,968I'm gonna go ahead and drag that.
01:04:31,787Oh, we've got that frame locked.
01:04:33,606No wonder it wouldn't let us drag it.
01:04:37,845And this doesn't really, we don't necessarily have
01:04:40,384to do this but just because we wanna be able to see
01:04:42,621all our effects in one place.
01:04:46,847Alright, so I'm gonna take plasma ball
01:04:53,024and I'm gonna copy it and paste it, control C, control V.
01:04:59,659And let's see, how many frames is this?
01:05:02,621Looks like we go up to frame 12.
01:05:05,126So we'll go back out and we'll add exactly 12 frames using
01:05:08,507F5 and it's still a graphic clip on the play once setting.
01:05:14,048So now we've got our plasma ball in here.
01:05:16,507What we can do, we can make it a little bigger
    01:05:20,587but we don't need to.
01:05:22,027We can modify this document and actually make the stronger
01:05:24,128and I'll show you why in a second.
01:05:27,360Because we can export this absolutely any size we want.
    01:05:31,888So let's try 300. Let's grab this guy.
01:05:35,465We'll just center it to the stage.
01:05:37,248You know what, let's make it even smaller.
01:05:43,461And then again, center this guy to stage.
01:05:49,667Alright, so we're gonna go ahead and export this.
    01:05:53,585First, let's save.
01:05:56,651Alright, we've got our animation source.
01:06:00,150And we've got our base animation.
01:06:01,712We're gonna call this one Plasma Ball.
01:06:05,405And this is the beginning of your animation
01:06:08,272effects archive, so I can use this plasma ball,
01:06:10,832you can use this plasma ball in any project you want.
01:06:14,032And in a second, we'll see that you can use it
    01:06:15,931in any resolution you want.
01:06:19,030So I'm gonna go export movie.
01:06:24,686And let's see, this is not where I want to put it.
01:06:29,952We'll go back to this VIP content.
01:06:34,246We're gonna go into the footage assets animation.
01:06:39,328And okay, this is where I want to put it.
01:06:41,670So I'm gonna call this Plasma Ball underscore,
01:06:46,352and I'm gonna export it as a PNG sequence.
01:06:49,190And the underscore, it's just gonna give you
01:06:51,632a little separation between the frame number and the name.
01:06:54,208We're gonna go ahead and put it out here
    01:06:56,908just to stay organized.
01:06:58,091So Plasma Ball_PNG, export as a PNG sequence.
01:07:01,550And then I'm gonna hit save.
01:07:03,472And it's gonna as me do you want to do minimum image area
    01:07:06,768or the full document size.
    01:07:08,306The document's 200 by 200.
01:07:10,710The minimum image area is 161 by 167.
01:07:14,436But what you can do is you can easily double this.
01:07:18,714So let's say we do the full document size
01:07:21,169and we want it twice the size.
    01:07:23,009Let's do it at 400.
01:07:25,771And then go back to minimum image area
01:07:27,712and we know that 322 by 334, we didn't have to do
01:07:30,367the math in our head, it's all working out perfectly.
01:07:33,569So we can export this at twice the size
01:07:35,590just so we have a great resolution once we bring it
    01:07:37,633into After Effects.
01:07:39,793And everything's gonna be just lovely. So let's export that.
01:07:45,953And then we're gonna do the same thing for each of these
    01:07:48,913back here, easy enough.
01:07:52,593Let's see assets, what assets do we have?
    01:07:55,772That's some old stuff.
01:07:57,292Let's just go ahead and delete these old ones.
01:08:04,033And I'm gonna make a new folder in assets.
    01:08:16,049I'm gonna call it Anim.
01:08:21,809Interpret footage main, we're gonna make sure
01:08:23,932that we're matching up our frame rate on that.
    01:08:26,787That's gonna be 24.
01:08:28,172Explosion Fire and Explosion Smoke do not need to loop,
01:08:33,851but they do need to be 24.
01:08:38,892Now the flames, we want this to loop.
01:08:42,193We want it to be the 24 frames per second.
01:08:45,750So I don't know how many times we're gonna need
01:08:48,310it to loop for the duration of this animation.
01:08:53,169Let's just say 20 just to be on the safe side.
01:08:56,910We can always come back and change it.
    01:08:58,812And then the plasma ball.
01:09:00,769I know I need it to loop, maybe not that many times.
01:09:05,473We'll set it to three for now.
01:09:07,244If we need more, we can come back and adjust it then.
01:09:09,506Okay, so now, I can go into my After Effects timeline.
01:09:13,489I'm gonna add these things where they go.
01:09:20,729Alright, so the first thing I'm gonna start with
    01:09:23,953is that Plasma Ball.
01:09:25,169Let's see, I've got a planet appearing here.
    01:09:28,252Looks like the first one.
01:09:30,972Let's go ahead and get that guy going.
01:09:34,732Just to stay organized, I'm gonna drag it down here.
    01:09:38,369That looks about right.
01:09:45,407That's not quite in the right place.
01:09:49,089And it's not quite the right size.
01:09:51,027So let's go ahead, hit the S key for scale, we'll try 60.
    01:09:58,916It might be a little small, we'll try 70.
    01:10:01,24370 looks good.
    01:10:04,704I'm gonna position here.
01:10:12,902And I think what we want to do is once that planet
01:10:15,883comes into play, we want to make this,
01:10:20,406we want to just make it fade out.
    01:10:23,781So I'm gonna hit T for opacity.
01:10:27,022I'm gonna go ahead and key that.
    01:10:29,079Oops, I don't wanna key it there.
01:10:31,242I wanna key that opacity about there.
    01:10:40,162And let's see, we'll go here.
    01:10:46,296Take that down zero.
01:10:52,092You know what, I think I wanna bring it up a bit too.
    01:11:00,722Just by two frames.
01:11:08,887We can actually position it a little better now
01:11:11,426that we can see behind there.
    01:11:15,923Alright, that's looking pretty good.
01:11:20,781Might drag this frame out just a smidge.
01:11:33,972Alright, so now that we've got that plasma ball effect,
01:11:38,162we're just gonna copy that frame.
01:11:40,759It's looking pretty much like we want it to.
01:11:47,538Put it just two frames before the earth.
01:11:51,762Actually, you know what we should've done just to
01:11:54,599be a little bit cleaner, just drag that back to there
01:11:57,680so we don't have extra frames.
01:12:10,178And let's put this one over the earth.
01:12:18,780And I think we can change actually the scale.
01:12:22,298Let's try 55. That might be a smidge too small.
01:12:28,81860s gonna work great for the earth.
01:12:33,987Alright, and then we'll make one more for,
01:12:40,658let's see if we can find.
01:12:42,940We've got the earth, we've got Saturn, Mars, there we go.
    01:12:45,878There's Mars, and Mars sound.
01:12:56,060And again, we want that just a little bit before.
01:12:59,719In fact, I think we want it two frames before.
01:13:05,854Let's go ahead and get this positioned in the right spot.
    01:13:14,514That looks pretty close.
01:13:19,538And let's figure out the scale here.
01:13:22,479I think we can do let's try 45, 45 perfect. Looks good.
01:13:29,202Let's just double check the scale of this guy.
01:13:34,322What scale do we have here?
01:13:37,69870, let's try 65 and see if that's, you know what,
01:13:41,018I'm gonna go back up to 70 actually because
    01:13:43,057of those rings, I think it's just,
01:13:48,002alright so we've got this little plasma ball
01:13:52,140helping us animate those planets on.
01:13:54,738And the next thing we want to do is add those
01:13:58,736explosions when the planets go off.
01:14:01,576So let's start an explosion here.
01:14:05,762And let's see, we're gonna go back to Saturn plasma ball.
01:14:10,018We'll go ahead and drag that explosion.
01:14:12,220So we are gonna have the smoke and the fire.
01:14:15,256Actually, we're gonna want to pre comp these together
01:14:18,556so let's do that really quickly.
01:14:23,054So I'm just gonna go new composition.
    01:14:26,380Same settings as everything else.
01:14:29,138I'm not too worried about that.
01:14:31,276We can adjust that after, but let's go explosion fire.
01:14:35,776Let's put that right in the middle.
    01:14:37,374And we'll do explosion smoke.
01:14:40,556Put that right in the middle.
01:14:42,556Actually, they're not lining up perfectly.
01:14:44,956And that's because of the way I drew the fire.
01:14:49,159And again, we added the two frame overlap,
01:14:52,156and we want the fire above the smoke.
01:14:56,197Comp one, we're gonna rename this guy
01:14:58,574and we're gonna call it Explosion.
01:15:01,214So let's go to this guy, and we'll
    01:15:04,138have to change that opacity.
01:15:06,436And what did we want to try, I think 60%
01:15:08,839I think is what we were playing around with.
01:15:11,970Yeah, it looks a little light on the white background,
01:15:14,672but we'll wait and see how it looks in our animation comp.
01:15:18,112So, now we've got our explosion.
01:15:20,091We can go ahead and add that.
01:15:24,528And I'm gonna speed through this because it's
01:15:26,550essentially the same as what we did for the
    01:15:29,168plasma ball placement.
01:15:38,011Okay, now let's get our flames to follow that
01:15:41,447little ship around, so we've got our ship here.
01:15:44,971And we've got our flames in the imported animation section.
01:15:50,672Let's just go ahead and drag to the stage.
01:15:56,811I'm gonna put this behind the ship
01:15:59,430because I want these to come out of the ship.
01:16:01,872I'm gonna use the Y key and the pan behind tool
01:16:05,568to move the anchor point of those flames.
    01:16:10,192I'm gonna position them.
01:16:13,211Let's just put them right about there.
01:16:16,331I'm gonna use the W key just to rotate them a little bit
01:16:21,568get them kind of the same angle of the ship.
01:16:24,567And let's see, they look a little bit too big.
01:16:29,771So, let's use the S key, we'll scale those down to
    01:16:33,248about 60%, let's go 65.
    01:16:40,446That's looking pretty good.
01:16:45,779We're just moving these around until they look
01:16:48,272like they're about in the right spot.
01:16:50,269And then I'm go down here and I'm gonna make
01:16:52,472the ship the parent of the flames and perfect.
01:16:56,597They're following along exactly how I want them to.
01:17:00,934Let's see, they look a little bit funky up there.
    01:17:05,078Let's just adjust.
01:17:09,195Alright, now we're good to go.
01:17:10,776Everything is working just as we want it.
01:17:14,239And flames are following the ship.
    01:17:17,291They're scaled appropriately.
    01:17:19,291Looking good, time to render.
01:17:22,432Alright, we've got our ship animated.
01:17:24,790We put everything together in After Effects
01:17:26,891and now we've got this awesome final render.
01:17:30,512So let's just recap a little bit of what we did here today.
01:17:33,346We learned how to take our footage from After Effects
01:17:36,368and stick it into Adobe Animate where we learned
01:17:38,925some different techniques for creating vector based
01:17:41,109hand drawn accent and effect animation.
01:17:43,846We then learned how we can take that back out of Animate
01:17:47,291and back into After Effects to composite it together
01:17:50,128with the rest of our work.
    01:17:51,792So now it's your turn.
01:17:53,232Go try this. Make your own effects library.
