In the course, you'll use professional live-action footage modeled on real-world VFX projects. Want to really wow? By the end of this course you'll be skilled in advanced compositing techniques including keying, rotoscoping, tracking, matchmoving, color correction, and more.

You’ll regularly upload your work to our Homework Locker — and receive thoughtful, comprehensive and precise feedback and draw-overs on your work. Not only will your TA's reviews help elevate your work, they'll offer you insights into the real-world revision process.

Meet your classmates, get comfy with the course format, and learn some basic compositing techniques. You'll be assigned a benchmark project to asses your current VFX skills.
Rotoscoping and Basic Color Matching
Learn many different methods for attacking these common and critical compositing tasks.
Become a master of Keylight, able to break apart shots to create pixel-perfect mattes, and learn more about matching elements.
Focus Week: MoGraph v. VFX
During this Focus Week, catch up on course work and material — and hone in on the differences between the worlds of MoGraph and VFX.
Dive into motion tracking, and learn how to use point and planar trackers to add elements to footage, as well as clean up shots using your tracks.
Discover how to create effects using a variety of built-in tools and compositing techniques, plus elements provided by ActionVFX.
Focus Week: Career Building
During this Focus Week, catch up on coursework and material — and find out how your new VFX skills will translate to industry work.
Master the essential technique of using camera tracking to embed elements into footage.
The Grand Finale
Put everything you've learned to the test by completing your final project, a perfect portfolio piece combining visual effects and motion design.
During this final three-week Extended Critique period, catch up on coursework and material, and complete and submit your final project for critique.
And once you’ve reached the end?
At the end of the course, you are inducted into the Alumni Facebook Group where you can post your final projects, meet students from previous sessions, and continue to keep in touch with your new compadres. The networking that takes place in this group is priceless, and many students have gotten freelance work from the connections they’ve made in this course.
